TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

Election of New Officers to Lead the Hawaii State PTSA
Delegates to the 2007 Hawaii State PTSA Convention will be electing our future leaders during general session.  The Hawaii State PTSA nominating and leadership development committee reports that currently, there are no nominations for slate of officer candidates.

The time has come for local unit leaders to step forward and volunteer to fill positions that will be up for election this year as well as all other vacant positions.  Change is good and extremely healthy for any organization.  We are looking for qualified and committed individuals to lead this organization; to bring new ideas, energy and a renewed spirit to the Hawaii State PTSA.

We need YOU!  Interested individuals are invited to run from the floor at convention.  Please download and print information on how to go about doing this

Proposed Bylaws Amendment
In accordance with Article XXI of the Bylaws of the Hawaii State PTSA, bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote at any annual convention, provided the amendments have been proposed by the Executive Committee or the Bylaws Committee, and approved by the Board of Directors.  A copy of the proposed amendments shall be sent to each member of the Board of Directors and to each local unit and district at least thirty (30) days before the annual convention.  All amendments shall be subject to approval by the Committee on Bylaws of the Board of Directors of the National PTA.

The Hawaii State PTSA Board of Directors has approved the following proposed bylaws amendment for consideration by the delegates to the 2007 Hawaii State PTSA annual convention.  All proposed bylaws amendments are subject to debate and possible amendment by delegates at the 80th annual convention to be held at the Royal Lahaina Resort, April 20-22, 2007.  Amendments adopted by the convention delegates will take effect immediately.

Proposed new text is underlined.

ARTICLE VI:  MEMBERSHIP and DUES

Re-number Sections 5 through 10 as Sections 6 through 11; insert the following as Section 5.

Section 5.  Each local unit may be charged an assessment when it has been determined by the Board that the current dues are insufficient to cover operating expenses and/or provide for reasonable reserves.  The assessment will be determined by the Board and the total for such asessment may not exceed $500 per local unit.

Rationale:  It requires a vote by membership at the annual meeting in order to raise dues.  In the event that a shortfall occurs before a dues increase can take place, the Board will have the ability to circumvent said shortfall through an assessment process.
